Change in Designated Smoking Area Members Balcony

Posted on: 1 February

Following a review of the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000, we have found that the smoking area on the eastern end of the balcony is non-compliant and as a consequence, we have relocated the smoking area to the western end of the balcony.

The eastern area is located within the minimum 4m range of the automatic doors, referred to in the Act as a “pedestrian access point” (PAP).

Although enclosed balconies are normally exempt, where a balcony can be accessed from an external area of the building (i.e. via our stairwell), it becomes an access point to the building.

The western end is compliant as it is more than 4m from the PAP. The two single doors (i.e. from Members Area and Acres) are considered emergency exits and not classed as a PAP (section 6A(2)(c)).

Please see the link below from NSW Health:

Signage is now in place and all staff have been informed. Members must comply with the new designated smoking areas at all times.  Should an health inspector detect a breach, fines may apply.

We thank you for your cooperation in meeting these minimum requirements.
