Castle Hill Country Club Major Pennants Opening Match Recap
Castle Hill Country Club kicked off their Major Pennants season in spectacular fashion with a commanding 5-2 victory in their opening match. The team performed outstandingly, demonstrating resilience, skill, and determination in a thrilling contest away from home. Here’s how the day unfolded:
Match 1: Andrew Kneevesy – Victory 2 Up
One of our most decorated scholarship holders, Andrew Kneevesy, set the tone for the day with a confident start. Taking an early lead, Andrew remained in control throughout the match, never allowing his opponent a chance to recover. He closed out the match with a solid 2-up win, securing Castle Hill’s first point.
Match 2: Stuart Nelson – Victory 3 & 1
Stuart Nelson found himself in an early battle as his opponent fired off three quick birdies, leaving him 3 down through five holes. However, Stuart remained composed, clawing his way back to just 1 down at the turn. With momentum on his side, he showcased his experience and determination, eventually sealing the match with a 3 & 1 victory.
Match 3: Patty Idquival – Victory 1 Up
Patty Idquival was in top form, racing to a 2-up lead through three holes and controlling the match from start to finish. Despite his opponent’s relentless fightback, Patty remained composed, delivering a clutch performance to win 1 up.
Match 4: Nick Heanes – Match Halved
Nick Heanes faced a tough challenge, trailing by two at the turn. Determined to swing the momentum, he fought hard down the stretch. A thrilling moment came on the 17th hole when Nick drained a crucial birdie, appearing to square the match, only for his opponent to match him with a birdie of his own. Heading to the 18th with everything on the line, both players hit the green in two, setting up a dramatic finish. With the crowd watching, Nick calmly rolled in a 15-foot putt to secure a well-earned half-point for Castle Hill.
Match 5: Owen Brightman – Victory 2 Up
Owen Brightman has been in sensational form, and he delivered once again. Leading for most of the match, Owen arrived at the 17th hole 2 up. On the final hole, he applied pressure with a pinpoint wedge shot, sealing the deal with a 2-up victory.
Match 6: Fashman – Victory 1 Up
Fashman came out firing, racing to a 4-up lead through four holes. However, his opponent mounted a comeback, closing the gap as the match progressed. Despite the pressure, Fash held his nerve with some stellar play down the stretch, securing a crucial 1-up victory.
Match 7: Jesse MacNaughton – Loss 1 Down
Jesse MacNaughton had a formidable challenge, going up against Penrith’s own Dale Hughes, the JNJG General Manager. In a tightly contested battle, the match remained all square through 17 holes. On the final hole, Hughes managed an impressive up-and-down from behind the green to edge out Jesse, winning 1 up in a fantastic duel.
Match 8: Justin Hatchett – Match Halved
Justin Hatchett’s match was a nail-biter from the very start, with both players trading birdies early on. The back nine remained just as intense, with neither golfer able to gain a decisive edge. Coming down 18 all square, both players hit approaches to within a foot of the hole, leading to a mutual concession and a well-fought half.
