Posted on: 11 February

Castle Hill Country Club’s Round 2 match saw a highly anticipated rematch against Penrith Golf Club, this time on our home course. With the advantage of familiar surroundings and strong local support, CHCC delivered yet another dominant performance, securing an emphatic 5.5 – 1.5 victory.

Match Results:

Match 1: Andrew Kneeves – Victory 5&3

Andrew once again set the tone for the team with a commanding performance. Taking an early lead, he controlled the match from start to finish, never allowing his opponent to mount a comeback. His precision and consistency saw him close out the match on the 15th hole with a dominant 5&3 victory, putting the first point on the board for Castle Hill.

Match 2: Stuart Nelson – Victory 3&2

For the second consecutive week, Stuart was locked in a tightly contested battle. He held a narrow 1-up lead at the turn but capitalized on his momentum in the back nine. Demonstrating experience, composure, and determination, he closed out the match with a solid 3&2 win, securing another crucial point for the team.

Match 3: Patty Idquival – Victory 1 Up

Patty continued his fine form, racing to a 2-up lead early and maintaining control throughout much of the match. However, his opponent launched a determined fightback, testing Patty’s resolve. Staying composed under pressure, Patty delivered a clutch performance down the stretch to secure a hard-fought 1-up victory.

Match 4: Nick Heanes – Victory 4&3

Facing a new team member from Penrith, Nick found himself in a tight contest, level at the turn. But as has been the hallmark of our team, he turned up the intensity on the back nine. Rattling off three consecutive birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14, he built an insurmountable lead. He sealed the match on the 15th hole, securing a decisive 4&3 victory and another vital point for Castle Hill.

Match 5: Owen Brightman – Victory 3&2

Coming off an impressive victory last week, Owen entered the match with confidence. The first nine holes were evenly contested, with neither player able to pull ahead. However, Owen shifted gears on the back nine, winning three consecutive holes to race out to a commanding 3-up lead through 12. From there, he maintained his composure and closed out the match 3&2 in style.

Match 6: Fashman – Victory 5&4

As team captain, Fashman was determined to lead by example, and he delivered a statement performance. Holding a 2-up lead at the turn, he continued to apply relentless pressure on his opponent, extending his advantage and ultimately sealing a dominant 5&4 victory. His leadership and outstanding play provided a huge boost to the team’s confidence.

Match 7: Jesse MacNaughton – Loss 1 Down

Jesse faced a formidable challenge, going up against Penrith’s Dale Hughes for the second week in a row. He made an early statement by holing out from 130 meters on the 3rd hole to take a 1-up lead. The match remained tight throughout, with neither player able to establish a clear advantage. In the end, Dale proved too strong, securing a narrow 1-up victory over Jesse in a hard-fought contest.

Match 8: Justin Hatchett – Match Halved

For the second consecutive week, Justin’s match provided plenty of drama. With Head Professional, Steve Gannon on the bag in Kempy’s absence both players traded birdies in the early stages, and the back nine was just as fiercely contested. On the 16th hole, Justin played strategic golf, opting for an iron off the tee, while his opponent took the riskier route with a driver, landing left of the bunkers. Against the odds, his opponent’s ball stayed up, allowing for an easy chip and a strong birdie opportunity. With Justin 1 down at the time, he needed to convert a crucial putt—and he delivered, bringing the match back to all square. The pressure shifted, and his opponent missed, even snapping his putter in frustration. A narrow miss on 17 meant Justin had to win the 18th to secure a half-point. Rising to the occasion, he drained a clutch birdie putt, ensuring his match ended in a well-earned half. Well done, Justin!
