2024 Major Pennant Round 1 – Update

Posted on: 5 February

Morning members,

Round 1 of the DIV1 Men’s Major Pennant teed off last Sunday with our boys taking on a new look Moore Park team.

Trent Wheeler led the team out followed by our 3 young guns, Owen (known now as OB), Nic Heanes and Andrew Kneeves.

Conditions were perfect for scoring and the boys took advantage early.

Andrew found himself down 5 through 6, courageously fought back but fell victim to his slow start.

Owen showed some amazing short-game skills and his putter was on fire rattling off some early birdies, he came down the 18th all SQ but couldn’t hole a tricky 6-footer for the half point. A great day’s play from you OB, your golf was pretty to watch and you represented your team and club proudly.

Nic was Stella tee to green, probably one of the highlight matches of the day, a very high standard of golf and all credit to Nic he handled the stage like a veteran. He hit two of the best shots I’ve ever seen while holding a 1Up lead on 18  to casually two putts for Par and award CHCC its first full point of the day, well done Nic we’re all so proud of your progress the past 12 months.

Speaking of Veterans !! Our #7 Trent Wheeler was in control of his match all day, whenever we saw him he was in the middle of a fairway, putting for birdie and rarely didn’t have the honour on the tee, too came down 18 with a 1 up lead but couldn’t convert his Par putt for the full point. I hope you enjoyed the battle TW.

Our back 3, Pat Idquival, Marty Carmichael and Brad Fasher came to play, Pat jumped out to an early 3Up lead but couldn’t keep pace going down 3&1, Brad was up against a Moore Park legend in Josh Boaz, Brad was even par at the turn with a birdie and a bogey but found himself 2Dwn. A few late birdies from the sweet-swinging lefty wasn’t enough, eventually going down 4&2.

Our reigning Match play Champion Marty Carmichael didn’t disappoint, having been sent up the playing order due to the late scratching of our Capt Justin Hatchett.

Marty once again proved that 50 is the new 40, He and Sal Nati are building a Player / Caddy Dynasty.

Marty, your will to win is unparalleled and well done on notching up our second full point.

Moore Park defeating CHCC 4.5 – 2.5.

We again thank our Major sponsors Melrose Estate Partners and Rate Money who are back for a 2nd year.

Thank you to all our supporters for making the early commute, Peter Alexander and our Mark Thomson (injury list) Mark also found another valuable use for his Range finder !!

Best of luck to our Juniors, Justin Hatchet and Brad Fasher who are all competing in the TPS event this week which leaves our team heavily depleted but ready for the challenge of taking down Pymble at Pymble from 0700. We welcome your support and hope to see as many members as possible on the course.
