Men’s Major Pennant Report – Round 5

Posted on: 29 February

This week we hosted Moore Park and both teams knew what was at stake.

We needed a convincing victory to keep our season alive and Moore Park wanted to take over second place on the leaderboard.

Huge credit to our grounds staff for the extra effort they put in after a disastrous week of weather.

The course was presented and played beautifully. Moore Park also expressed their appreciation as to how the course was prepared.

Thank you to Aaron and the entire team !!

We sent Pat Idquival (aka Panda) out first. Pat was coming off a solid victory last week and we were all hoping he could notch up an early point and apply some pressure on Moore Park. I watched this match closely and enjoyed the quality of golf. Panda had 9 straight pars on the front 9 to be all square.

Unfortunately, his opponent had some good breaks on the back nine and Panda just ran out of holes, he fought hard going down 3&2.

Next up was  Trent Wheeler. Trent was victim to some cheeky strategy from Moore Park, his opponent usually playing up the order. Trent was a little out of sorts with his putter and just couldn’t keep pace. His opponent not giving anything away, he went down 3&2

Brenden Yap (Yappy) was moved up the order to #5 this week. Brenden has been our form player this season. This was another well-fought match with the lead switching between them. Moore Park is too strong again, going up 3 nil early with another 3&2 victory, unlucky Yappy.

Nick Heanes was also forced up the order as we didn’t have the services of Mark Thomson this week, (he was celebrating his 49th B’day in the Hunter Valley). Happy Birthday, Thommo !!

This has been a breakout year for Nick, his game has gone to another level and he has some big goals. It was again a pleasure to watch this kid under the supervision of our Junior Captain Keean Holmes. They are both talented young men who have a big future with CHCC. Nick was in control all day demolishing his opponent 5&4 to give us our first point of the day. Well done Nick & Keean on another classy performance.

We were lucky to have Marty back after a mystery injury last week. He was coming off an 8 birdie bonanza on Saturday. Marty again showed us why he is the current CHCC Matchplay champion by downing his opponent 3&1. He’s just a machine when he competes and a great leader for our younger players both on and off the course. Thanks again for your contribution, Marty.

Moore Park is leading 3 matches to 2.

Justin Hatchett (Hatchy) laced up at #2 and this match was never in doubt with Hatchy sailing out to an early lead which his opponent couldn’t catch. He’s probably in the best form of his life right now and it’s a joy to watch, He and Steve Kemp are a formidable duo at any venue but at CHCC these two are unbeatable, Hatchy cruising to a 3&2 victory

CHCC, Moore Park tied 3 all !!

Brad Fasher (Fash ) was again our #1 and had a score to settle after going down to Josh at Moore Park in Rd1. Josh was coming off a top 5 finish at the Concord Cup, one of amateur golf’s strongest fields. This match was always going to go the distance, Fash luckily had a 1up lead heading into the last hole but couldn’t save his par from the back bunker to finish all square. Fash was gutted as we all were for him, he is also playing some of his best golf in recent memory and deserved a victory. Thanks again for being our anchor Fash, it’s the hardest position in the pack for a reason and it’s pretty obvious why we chose you as our rock, well done mate.

CHCC and Moore Park tied 3.5 all

Also, special mention to Cam Walker and his caddy Fynn Howard for recording their first victory this week, Cam was dominant all day winning 5&4. Cam is undefeated in his first two matches and seriously staking his claim for a starting position, maybe this is your week Cam ??

Next week we have the pleasure of taking on NSW at NSW, they’re undefeated to this point and we certainly plan to change that.

Thanks again to our Major Sponsors, Melrose Estate Agents, Rate Money and all our supporters who came out yesterday, it’s always uplifting to see familiar faces out on the course.
